2022 Masters - Day Two

Live coverage of the second day of action from Augusta National

  • 4/8/2022 6:46:43 PM
The wind is expected to get up at Augusta with scores expected to get worse. That's good news for Power at +4 and also Rory who is +3 through 13 holes. His approach to 13 found the fringe of the green and he got down in two for a badly needed birdie.
  • 4/8/2022 6:57:25 PM
Tiger watchers. He is going in the wrong direction with the wind playing it's part. The five times champion has just carded his third bogey in four holes. The most recent was an iron to the par 3, which missed the green way out on the right 27 yards from the pin. His second catches a slop on the green and rolls away from the hole to the fringe leaving Tiger with a 29 feet putt for par. He misses and falls to +2 through 4 holes.

    Irish state of play -
Harrington is +4 through 12 holes
McIlroy is +3 through 13 holes
Lowry is +1 through six holes
    Power is +4 and finished.
The projected cut is currently +4
  • 4/8/2022 7:07:37 PM
Rory (+3) slams his driver on the ground at the par-5 hole at 15. His ball curving left takes a few bounces before rolling up to a shrub and some pine straw. That's a chip out.
He is six shots of the leaders Schwartzel, Im and Willett all on -3.
  • 4/8/2022 7:11:44 PM
The cut today by the way has changed. It is top 50 and ties.
De Chambeau, who we haven't seen very much of at all, is +7 through five holes and way off the cut line.
  • 4/8/2022 7:19:41 PM
Better work from Rory on 15. His ball was on the pine straw off the tee but he poked it down to the water in front of the green. His pitch across for 3 was good and bit on the second bounce. He has a birdie putt to go to +2.
Tiger makes par on six to stay on +3.
  • 4/8/2022 7:24:00 PM
He misses. Who? Rory on 15 but walks away with a par, his putt falling away on the low side. He is +3.
Better news for Lowry. A birdie on the par-4 at 7 has him at level par.
  • 4/8/2022 7:30:52 PM
Lowry chips to six feet on 8 to have another look at a birdie. This could be back to back for the Open champion. But he pushes it right and has to settle for par. Still in good condition, though, level par and three shots off the leaders  Schwartzel, Im and Willett all still on -3.

  • 4/8/2022 7:58:58 PM
Rory makes birdie on the par-3 16th hole which takes him back to +2 and T27. Tiger has stopped his bogey rash and has steadied his game over the first three holes with par. No doubt making four bogeys in five holes has hurt him. He is now +3 through 7 holes.
  • 4/8/2022 8:03:31 PM
  • 4/8/2022 8:48:02 PM
Rory can look at his round, a 73 whatever way he wants. But after the double bogey on the 11th, he knuckled down to shoot the remaining seven holes on 2-under par with birdies on 13, a par-5 and 16, a par-3 to end his second round on +2.
Lowry has been going much better. Despite a bogey on the first hole with a missed short putt, he has grown into the round. Birdies on two, seven and 10 leave him on a healthy -1 through 12 holes, three behind the current leader Scheffler.
Harrington, who ended his second round on +5 is currently one shot outside the cut line of 4-over par.
  • 4/8/2022 8:52:26 PM
Former Open champion Stewart Cink hits a hole in one at 16.
The ace takes him back to +6.
  • 4/8/2022 8:52:47 PM
    Watch it !
  • 4/8/2022 8:59:06 PM
Tiger watchers he is still in this. Par, par, birdie, par, birdie took him to +1 through 10 holes. But he has just carded his fifth bogey of the round on 11 for +2. His approach fell short and the third chip onto the green ran 8 feet past the hole. He couldn't make the putt back and carded a 5.
  • 4/8/2022 9:07:46 PM
More fantastic play from Shane Lowry at the par-5, 13th hole. He makes the green with two  big shots and sets up a long EAGLE putt ,which stops just inches from the cup. It's the easiest birdie he will tap in and it takes him to 2-under par with five holes to play. That's his forth birdie of the day.
He is now T4 and just two off the leader Scheffler who is on 4-under
  • 4/8/2022 9:19:53 PM
Lowry digs out a tough par on 14 to keep his upward arc going. His drive was in trees and he had to bounce it low to the green. But his ball ran through only to be stopped by the patrons sitting around the green. But an up and down from nine feet clinched the par and he remains just two behind the leader Scheffler.
  • 4/8/2022 9:22:56 PM
Harrington remains just one of the cut line, which is +4. He is in good company with Spieth, Koepka, Rose and Schauffele all looking at a plane home this evening.
  • 4/8/2022 9:27:19 PM
  • 4/8/2022 9:32:22 PM
Lowry showing off his great hands at the 15th hole. He hits the perfect drive before laying up before the water at the par-5. His pitch across goes long right but bites and spins back to the hole missing the cup by no more than an inch for Eagle. It would have been his second chip in of the round.
Still a birdie, his third over the last six holes, moves The Open champion to -3 and joint second place for the tournament.
  • 4/8/2022 9:41:13 PM
A word on the world number one Scottie Scheffler. He currently leads the field  on -5, having just made birdie on the 12th, his third in six holes, a fine response after making bogey twice in the opening three holes.
  • 4/8/2022 9:48:38 PM
Lowry's iron to the 16th causes him a wince. He has left himself a 47 foot putt at the par three, his ball short and right of the pin. He plays it to about six feet with the his final putt just falling in the left side of the cup. Another fist pump, he remains at -3 and two off the lead.
Back to back birdies from Tiger with a par five to come at 15. He's +1.
"I'm pleased. It is still all to play for," says Rory after his round. He's +2.
  • 4/8/2022 9:58:20 PM
Lowry safely on the green at the par-4, 17th hole but again he's a long way from the pin, this time 44 feet. He's allowing the last few holes to work him hard on the greens.
  • 4/8/2022 10:01:11 PM
Scheffler goes to -6 and three clear of the field through 13 holes. In the groove now the world number one has opened up the biggest gap of the day on the chasing pack.
  • 4/8/2022 10:03:53 PM
Lowry has another five footer for par on 16. His putt from another parish just rolled that little bit past the cup to leave him with a nervy one. But he steps up confidently and hits it firm. No problem. He holds par and stays at 3-under par and within three shots of leader Scheffler.
  • 4/8/2022 10:05:21 PM
  • 4/8/2022 10:10:42 PM
Lowry's drive on 18 goes straight up the middle. Just an iron and two putts woul;d see him safely home with a fine -3 and up among the tournament leaders.
  • 4/8/2022 10:12:52 PM
25-year-old Scottie Scheffler has won three times on the PGA Tour this year: at the Waste Management Phoenix Open, the Arnold Palmer Invitational and the WGC Match Play. He's looking for his third birdie in three holes at 14. He leads on -6.
  • 4/8/2022 10:18:11 PM
Lowry from 166 yards hits the 18th green and leaves himself with another birdie putt, this time close enough to hope it may drop. He has 11 feet to go to -4 and second place out on his own, three shots behind Scheffler. Oh...it shaves the left edge and he smiles as he walks off with a 68 for -3, the lowest score of the day so far.
  • 4/8/2022 10:22:45 PM
Okay  the cut is +4 and Harrington is +5. But McIlroy. Power and Lowry are through with Lowry soaring on day two with a sparkling 68 to remain -3 and well in the hunt over the weekend. A final scoreboard before we get going tomorrow again.
