Cork v Limerick, Páirc Uí Chaoimh, 4.0 – Live, RTÉ2

Cork have a good record against them – unbeaten in the two years of the round-robin and will be steamed up before what is expected to be the biggest hurling attendance in the rebuilt ground. Verdict: Cork
  • 4/17/2022 2:40:41 PM

    CORK
    Manager:
     Kieran Kingston (3rd year)
    Odds: All-Ireland 15/2; Munster 5/1
First up: Limerick, Páirc Uí Chaoimh, April 17th, 4.0

Maybe reaction to league final was extreme but many key selection issues remain live. Has the defence sufficiently improved? It didn’t look like that in Thurles. Now talk is of moving out Mark Coleman to make better use of his hurling. If Daire O’Leary is absent who plays full back? How best to deploy the promising Ciarán Joyce? Answers needed.

    LIMERICK
    Manager:
     John Kiely (6th year)
    Odds: All-Ireland Evens; Munster 8/11
First up: Cork, Páirc Uí Chaoimh, April 17th, 4.0

Counting on their perfect timing, the champions have ground to cover after unengaged league. The return of the round robin means they won’t have neatly calibrated schedule of last two years. Trawling for new talent in the fifth year of current team, there’s no prospect of radical change. If they get to their ceiling, no one will match them. If.

HT Cork 1-8 Limerick 2-9 Cork come away with nothing after a half goal chance just before the interval. • 4/17/2022 4:53:24 PM
So that's that . . . Limerick remind everyone just how good they are with a dominant 11 point win over a disappointing Cork side. Kyle Hayes' goal will be replayed over and over, no doubt the highlight of the day.
In the first game, Waterford were too good for Tipperary, who will take plenty of positives from Walsh Park despite a four point defeat to the league champions.
The match report from the first game is live here. And keep an eye on the homepage for the second which will be through shortly. Thanks for joining us this afternoon, isn't it great to have the Munster championship back!
